Looking Glass Rock Writers' Conference

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Thanks for your interest in the Looking Glass Rock Writers' Conference, which will be held May 16-19, 2024, at Brevard College and the Transylvania County Library in Brevard, North Carolina. The conference theme is "A Sense of Place."

Workshops will be led by Dorianne Laux (poetry), Jason Mott (fiction), and Pam Houston (creative nonfiction).

Applications open September 1, 2023, and close December 31, 2023 (please note the deadline extension). Accepted participants will be notified by February 1, 2023. Upon acceptance, you must show proof of being vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to arriving at the conference.

Acceptance to conference workshops in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry is based on manuscript evaluation. Scholarships are available from the Transylvania County Library Foundation. You may apply for both scholarship and non-scholarship (regular) categories. 

Each workshop is limited to 12 participants. You may apply to two workshops but will be selected for only one. Send us your best published or unpublished work to apply. If you are accepted, you may submit a new manuscript for your individual conference and workshop.

Please do not put your name in the text or file name of the saved document. All submissions will be read anonymously.

Fiction: Submit up to 20 double-spaced pages of a story or novel excerpt, or multiple short pieces.

Creative Nonfiction: Submit up to 20 double-spaced pages of an essay and/or memoir excerpt, or multiple short pieces.

Poetry: Submit up to 10 pages of poetry, with one poem per page, all in one document.
